America squanders more energy than any other nation. And with all the issues our planet is confronting these days with pollution and ozone layer depletion, we have to help conserve energy, which in turn will assist our world.

We will concentrate on several things that we all can do to conserve power and save money as well. These things are really easy to do that any person can do them; all the same, you will have to take action for it to work and doing so you will help save the Earth.

The number one thing you can do is to simply switch off the lights each time you leave the room. Many of us probably temporarily leave the living room lights switched on when we go to the kitchen to get food because we think we are going to return right away. If you do this even for just a couple of times a day, that is more or less 30 minutes of squandered electricity for only this one light. While it may not seem like much, the sad truth is millions of people are doing the exact same thing every day. And every soul who does this is squandering 182 hours of energy every year for simply this one light. Then try to multiply that by just 1 million people. That is 182,000,000 hours of electrical energy being wasted each year on merely one light.

One other wasteful habit that many people do is turn the lights on when walking into a room. It's one thing many people do automatically. I often catch myself doing the exact same thing also. The problem is that even at daytime when you have no need for the light because you're getting more than enough sunlight to light up the room. However most people still walk in a room and turn the lights on. And the awful part is since there is daylight, you may leave the room and leave the lights switched the entire day as since you don't even realize it's on. You merely need to make the extra effort to not flip the lights on if there is adequate natural light coming inside.

Another problem is people leaving electric devices like TVs and radios on all day, even when they are not using them. When I come visit my mother, I have to remind her to turn the TV off since she would leave it running even though she's not watching. That's a great deal of electricity being squandered. So, if you're not in the room, switch off the TV.

These are only several simple things that can be done each day to help save energy and to help save the Earth by doing so. If every person makes just a tiny effort to do these very simple things, it can add up to make a huge difference.
