The first thing that comes into people's minds when thinking about switching their home to solar power is the huge bill. They may think having big panels installed on their roof and a complicated electrical unit. With a high price tag of roughly $8000 for a complete system, most people won't even entertain the though of buying a system.

Using solar energy can save you a considerable amount on electric bills in the long term and has the added benefit of being a clean source of energy that will not harm the environment. You will begin to experience the advantages once you pay off the upfront investment since you will no longer be paying for electricity and your energy source will be free. If the initial investment needed to install solar panels is something you can't afford for you, there may be an alternative solution.

Alternately, you can purchase an average-sized independent 60 watt solar panel. Even though this isn't a lot of energy and won't power your entire house, it can still save you money and provide electricity to a few things. You might be able to do something including provide the energy for several energy efficient light bulbs to light up your outdoor entranceway. Or how about supplying power for a personal icebox to keep in your room for snacks? To a lot of people, this is a luxury because it would cost quite a lot in electricity, so many people dont 'do it. It wouldn't end up costing you a considerable amount as the energy cost would be nearly free.

Nevertheless, don't feel that you must waste the energy. You could power your laptop or a computer from your 60 watt solar system, saving you electricity and hence saving you money on your electric bill. You could likewise select another appliance that doesn't consume much energy and power in with your solar panel system to save a little money. You won't be able to connect many devices to the solar panel system at one time but, by connecting a few things, you will still be able to save money on electricity. 60 watts isn't a lot of power but put up some rule that you must stop at one small panel? You could buy two, three or even a couple dozen to produce more power for your house, allowing you to add more energy hungry devices to your panel.

If you're good with tools, try constructing a small solar panel system on your own since they can cost anywhere from 400 to 900 dollars if you purchase a pre-built one. Small solar panels give you the opportunity to save the earth and save money without making a large investment to get started.
