How to Conserve Electricity Every Day

Compared to other nations worldwide, America wastes electricity the most. With environmental issues such as pollution and the depletion of the ozone layer, we have to be very conscious of the amount of energy we consume.

We are going to talk about several things that each of us can do to save electricity and save money too. These things are really easy to do that anyone can do them; however, you will have to act for it to work and doing so you will help save our environment.

One simple and easy thing you can do is to just switch off the lights when you go out a room. Many of us likely temporarily leave the living room lights switched on when we go to the kitchen to prepare some food because we believe we are coming right back. Leaving the room empty with the lights turned on can lead to as much as thirty minutes or more of squandered electricity if done a couple of times a day. While it may not look like much, the fact is millions of people are doing the exact same thing every day. If you combine the minutes for the year, that would be about 182 hours of electricity just for one light in one room for every individual that does this. Let's assume we waste more or less 182 hours of electrical energy yearly and we multiply that by one million people. That's 182 million hours of electricity squandered each year coming from a light that is left switched on in a single room.

Aside from leaving the lights switched on when exiting a room, many of us switch the lights on when entering a room. This has become something that's done by a lot of people. I catch myself doing this too. Nevertheless, there could be adequate light, perhaps sunlight, coming into a room. Still, most people still come into a room and switch the lights on. And aside from that, because of the natural light coming in, we forget we turned the room light on in the first place and leave it on for the rest of the day. You have to make a deliberate effort to leave the lights off if there is enough natural light in a room.

Another problem is people leaving electronic devices like TVs and radios switched on the whole day, even when they are not using them. A good example is my mother; she's always leaving the Telly on in the living room, even though she's may be in the kitchen making a meal or cleaning the rest of the house. That's a ton of power being consumed. Thus, if you are not watching the telly, just turn it off.

These are only a few really simple suggestions that can go a long way to save electrical power and help save the Earth. If every person makes just a tiny effort to do these very simple things, it can add up to make a huge difference.
