Fruits and vegetables are proven to help prevent disease and as we know provide many important vitamins and fiber that are good and healthy for us. Even though we are aware of their benefits, and every parent tells their child to eat them, many of us have trouble following Mom's advice.

So, take a look at us now, swimming in hamburgers and french fry grease, chugging down a chocolate shake at lunchtime while making an attempt at steering the car with our only non-oily finger. Even if you aren't having a drive thru lunch every day, we are all guilty of grabbing something quick and easy, like cookies because it's ready to eat NOW. If we would simply take a few moments from our busy schedule, we would find it is easy to put together something that is more nutritional and tasty, too.

Watermelon, cantaloupe, and grapes are very nutritious. They are easy and nutritious to eat after a quick washing off. A marinade of Italian dressing is delightful with cauliflower, celery and carrots. Health researchers have compiled the data on our eating habits, and it's clear that tomatoes and turnips aren't high on the list of popular foods. They have created a movement to try and help remind the public to eat more fruits and veggies. 5 a day encourages us to get 5 fruits and vegetables into our diets daily.

It does at first sound like quite a lot, those five servings. But there are great and easy ways that you can help yourself eat more. Start a fruit bowl to keep at work. Fruit can be combined with pancakes, cereal, or waffles. Apples or bananas are a great snack to take with on the go.

It is especially easy to increase your vegetable servings. It's easy and smart to have a salad for lunch. Or order a healthier sandwich that has lots of vegetable toppings. If you're baking, you can sneak in vegetables and never even realize it. If you're making a sauce or a soup, you can load up on vegetables. Cook up a batch of stew, and lay on the vegetables.

Spread some peanut butter on celery sticks and you have an excellent treat for children, and they'll eat it too. And, concerning children who are usually very picky, all you can do is give them a variety of food choices every day. People will typically state, "If you eat those vegetables you will get some dessert," but this tactic just lessens any appeal the vegetables had in the first place. Think about how different everyone's health would be if we didn't see our vegetables in this manner.

Carotts after you finish all of your pudding!? Fruit and vegetable juices are another delicious and refreshing way to meet your goal of five servings a day. The single problem with fruit juices is the lack of fiber in them. It is also easy to fill your stomach with juice and then not want to eat at all. Juice can contain more calories.

Fruits and vegetables provide so many healthy advantages, you can't disregard them Research has shown us that people who consume the recommended servings of fruits and vegetables a day have about half the chance of contracting 14 different types of adult cancers than those who don't. Blindness, stroke, and heart attack risk can also be reduced by consuming more fruits and veggies.

This is information we probably already know, however, we still ignore the advice and don't get enough fruits and veggies in our diets. Some people prefer the argument that fruits and vegetables cost too much, while other people will point out that it takes way too long to slice up a strawberry. What excuse keeps you from eating the way you know you should?
