Until quite recently, bamboo flooring was usually only found in other countries; it has always been very common in Southeast Asia. However, interior design in Britain is becoming increasingly diverse and people are constantly looking for new ideas. Many people are now choosing this type of flooring rather than more traditional ones. Not only is it a very practical floor covering to have but it is realistically priced and very easy to install.
There are actually two different types of bamboo flooring; horizontal and vertical. These are both easily available from many online suppliers. The most common form is bought in ‘planks’ with a grain orientation of your choice. Many of the bamboo planks are fitted and held in place with a locking system which is extremely precise. When the flooring is installed it has a beautiful, laminated finish to it that is very easy to keep clean.
You will normally find that bamboo flooring is available in ‘natural’ or ‘carbonized’. The natural shade is a similar colour to beech while the carbonized is oak in colour. It is also very common for people to mix these two shades when they fit them in their home. There are all kinds of patterns which can be achieved and it can be really nice to sit and work out your own personal design.
The type of bamboo that is used for flooring is called ‘Moso’. This normally comes from the highlands in the Pacific Rim. Some people will not install this type of floor covering as they think it is damaging wildlife. Don’t let people tell you that bamboo flooring is affecting the diet of Pandas because this is completely untrue. A Panda eats more than thirty different varieties of bamboo and Moso is not one of them; anyone who tells you otherwise does not know their facts.
There are several very good reasons for choosing to install bamboo flooring bamboo flooring in your home. Not only is it a really attractive type of flooring to lay in your home but it is also very healthy. If you suffer from any allergies then it is a great choice as it does not promote dust or encourage dust mites. It is cheaper than other types of hardwood flooring and it is strong.
It is also good for the environment. It is well known for containing safe resins and it has very low formaldehyde emissions. In the United States it is recognized as being a sustainable product by the Green Building Counsel. More and more people are becoming aware of the effect that we are having on our planet and even when choosing a floor covering, there are ways to help the environment.
So, as you can see, there are some very good reasons why so many people are choosing to fit bamboo flooring in their homes and you are certainly not going to have any problems when it comes to finding someone to supply it. The only thing you need to give any further thought to is which colour will suit your room/s the best.
