You may be faced with this question! How do submit to web directories myself?

Though manual directory submission may be time-consuming and a stressful process, but it is very possible for you to do yourself. Just follow the processes explained below:

1. Selecting The List Of Your Favorite Web Directories: This is the first major step to take. Decide the directories you wish to submit your site(s) to. Since the Internet is filled up with millions of sites in almost any niche, just do a search on Google, and through thorough research you should be able to come up with your choices.

In order not to be confused about the directory lists, save them in an excel spreadsheet either alphabetically or according to page-rank. This will prevent you from making repeated submissions.

2. Check if the directories are SEO-friendly: The next step to take after selecting your directory list is to check if they they are search engine friendly. There is no point in submitting to links that are not SEO friendly as it will be a total waste of time. Directories that will provide links that are counted and valued by the search engines are the ones regarded as SEO friendly directories.

To know if the directory link is SEO friendly check the page source of one of the link pages in the website of the directory. Right click on it and you will see 'View Page Source'. Click on option and then look for the code. If it shows "noindex or nofollow" or both, do not submit to that directory as it is not search engines friendly and your submissions will count for nothing and the search engines will not follow them.

But on the other hand, if you check the source code and the links appear in the typical HTML-href-format, it shows that the directory is SEO friendly, any other format outside the typical HTML -href-format shows that such directories are not SEO friendly and links to such sites have no relevancy and value.

3. Select The Right category: Submitting to the most appropriate category is very relevant to in manual directory submissions. Familiarize with the web directory by navigating through the categories and choosing the right category or sub-category as submissions to irrelevant categories will be rejected or even considered spam since the directories are human edited and use strict guidelines for submissions. If you cannot find an appropriate category to submit to, simply skip it and move on to the next directory.

The Actual Submission Process: Open the Home page of the directory site you want to submit your site URL to. Click on, "Add Listing" or "Suggest A site". You can still find "Submit A Site" or "Add Site" depending on the term used by the directory.

You will be taken to the category page, choose the relevant category and you will be redirected to the submission form where you will find the submission rules and guidelines. Do not be in a hurry to submit your site, make sure you read the submission guidelines carefully so as not to miss important information that will make your submissions to be rejected by the editors as each directory have different submission procedures.

Directory listing option: Most directories submissions are free, but they still offer paid listing and reciprocal listing. But one very reliable and cost effective method is free directory submissions without choosing the option for reciprocal linking which sites that only give a link if they receive a link in return. Free web directory submissions give free listings and each website submitted to a free directory is manually reviewed. Though approval of your site may take time, but when eventually approved your site will appear under the appropriate category that you submitted to and increase your site click-through rate on searches made on relevant keywords relating to the category.

Paid submissions option usually offers a faster approval for submitted websites, but for the purpose of this article, we would be focusing more on free submissions.

Final Submission: After completing the form with all the basic details and information, which includes keywords, submitters e-mail, descriptions, sites URL according to the directory, then you have to fill in the captcha code.

This is one major advantage manual directory submissions has over automatic submissions as the automated software find it difficult to enter the captcha verification code.

After entering the verification code, you are done and click on submit to finally submit your site to the directory and move over to the next directory and continue the process over again until you are done.
